It was the month of April in 2013. Prasad and I started planning our honey moon trip. After carefully considering our budget and reading a lot of reviews, we decided upon going to Maldives.
On May 27th, exactly a week after our marriage, we started on our honey moon trip. I was super excited. That was my first trip outside India. That was also my first flight travel! Prasad, who was already familiar with flight check-in procedures was patient enough to explain in detail about the procedures and ensured that my first flight experience was hassle-free. We took a domestic flight from Chennai to Kochi and from there, we took the flight to Maldives. The flight journey to Maldives lasted a couple of hours and engaged us in watching the scenic beauty of islands all through the way. Prasad managed to capture the islands of Maldives in a short video which I will be posting later.
Maldives was a real Paradise on Earth. It was a pleasure to see the lagoons in light blue clearly separated from the dark blue deep waters. We stayed in a resort which was aptly named 'Paradise Island resort'. Since it is said that "seeing is believing", I would like to add some pictures of this 'Blue Paradise'.
We had booked 'Superior beach bungalows' in the resort since 'water villas' were out of our budget. But, then, the beach bungalows were too good. Open the back door and you have direct access to the Sea. We had a great time looking at the blue sea while comfortably resting in the wooden chairs in the sea shore.
Initially, I was worried about whether i could get vegan Indian foods in Maldives. But, it was a pleasant surprise everyday with at least 2 Indian items on the restaurant buffet. We could have dosas, pooris and rotis. We even met two of the chefs there who were of Indian origin (Tamilians, to be more precise) there.
We did a good thing by booking accommodation with full board meals (includes breakfast, lunch and dinner). Spending for a la carte meal here is ridiculously costly. Another point to note here is that they provide only 2 half litre water bottles per day for free. Anything extra is added to the bill. The water bottle costed around 3 dollars and cool drinks around 4 dollars.
We even got a chance to try out snorkeling and ride in a 'reef looker' during our stay there. Snorkeling equipment was around 11 dollars for rent and the 'reef looker' ride was for 100 dollars. We could see reefs and turtles during the ride. We couldn't see more since the glass bottom of the 'reef looker' boat was mostly filled with bubbles.
I would like to give a couple of tips to those who plan to go to Maldives. It's better to buy snorkeling equipment here than to rent one there. Buying one here costs the same as renting one there. Do sufficient research on package prices before going there. We went through 'Dream destinations' which was less costlier than through 'Make my trip' and we could get accommodation with full board meal plan for a lesser cost.
